"In a bid to boost tourism, the Government of Sri Lanka yesterday announced that the visa fee exemption scheme for citizens of 48 countries will be implemented from 1 August 2019, effective for a period of 6 months. The government would like to evaluate the progress of this project over 6 months period, if proven good this will continue this for another 6 months. 

Tourist from the visa fee exempted countries will still need to go through the ETA process, only difference been visa’s are free of charge for the Tourist from the Visa fee exempted countries. This facility is available for a maximum of 30 days Tourist visa, if desired to extend, the normal process applies. visa extensions for a stay over 30 days can be done online, at the special counter at the Airport once the passenger arrives to Sri Lanka or by visiting the 4th Floor of the Department of Immigration and Emigration office at Battaramulla. "
